March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month

Be a lifesaver!

Make an appointment for a colon cancer screening appointment. You may save another’s life or it may be your own! Gastroenterology Specialists of Oregon urges you to call us today to get information about our Colon Cancer Screening Program. You may not know your risk, but we can help!

According to the American Cancer Society, the following risk factors tell us who should be screened for risk of colon cancer. These are men and women who:

  1. Are over the age of 50
  2. Have a personal history of colorectal polyps or colorectal cancer
  3. Have a personal history of inflammatory bowel or chronic digestive disease
  4. Have a family history of colorectal cancer

Other risk factors of health and lifestyle may increase the likelihood of developing colon or rectal cancer such as obesity, a diet higher in fatty foods, smoking, lack of physical activity, and those with Type 2, insulin-dependent diabetes.

The good news is that Oregon is one of many states that has passed laws requiring insurance coverage for the full range of colorectal cancer screening tests.

We also want to make you aware that Medicare now covers most or all of the cost of colonoscopy screenings. For Medicare enrollees, coverage begins at age 50 for the most common colorectal cancer screening tests. Since colon and rectal cancers can frequently be detected at an early stage with routine colonoscopy screenings, our providers deem it important to share this information with you.

Fill out the information below and we will get back to you.
